[RC522 Chip Introduction]

The MF RC522 is a highly integrated reader/writer IC for contactless communication at 13.56MHz, launched by NXP for “three-meter” applications. It is a low-voltage, low-cost, small-sized contactless reader/writer chip, making it a good choice for smart meters and portable handheld device development. The MF RC522 utilizes advanced modulation and demodulation concepts, fully integrating all types of passive contactless communication methods and protocols at 13.56MHz. It supports 14443A compatible transponder signals. The digital part handles ISO14443A frames and error detection. Additionally, it supports the fast CRYPTO1 encryption algorithm for MIFARE series product authentication. The MFRC522 supports higher-speed contactless communication for the MIFARE series, with a bidirectional data transmission rate of up to 424kbit/s. As a new member of the 13.56MHz high-integration reader/writer chip family, the MF RC522 shares many similarities with the MF RC500 and MF RC530, while also having many features and differences. Communication with the host is conducted via SPI mode, which helps reduce wiring, shrink PCB size, and lower costs.
